Bloomsburg Sweeps Pair in Softball on Thursday

PHILADELPHIA--The Bloomsburg University softball team (11-6) swept a pair of games Thursday afternoon from Holy Family (3-11) in non-conference play.
In game one, Bloomsburg got a two-run double from Lisa Bohner (Northumberland/Shikellamy) in the top of the third which proved to be the game-winning hit in the 8-1 win for the Huskies. In game two, the Tigers rallied with five runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Bloomsburg got a run with two outs in the top of the six in a 6-5 win in six innings. The game was called after six innings due to darkness.
In the opener, Bloomsburg took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) doubled to center field, then later scored on an error. Holy Family tied the score in the bottom of the inning, when Lauren Armstrong tripled, scoring lead-off hitter Tara Debes.
Following Bohner's double in the third, the Huskies scored two more runs in the top of the fifth when Stacy Krupiewski (Trooper/Methacton) homered to center field scoring Reed and Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Mifflinburg) with two outs.
The Huskies scored three more runs in the top of the seventh, when Corliss smacked a two-run double to right field. Corliss would later score on an error.
Ashley Lynn got the win for Bloomsburg, scattering eight hits over seven innings. She also struck out seven.
Tara Reed went 3-for-3, while Krupiewski was 3-for-4 for Bloomsburg.
In the nightcap, the Huskies struck early as Bloomsburg got a first-inning run from Kelly Zarski (Paxinos/Danville) on a bases loaded walk.
In the third, Bloomsburg tacked on two more runs in the third inning when Missy Bachert (Coplay/Parkland) hit a RBI single that scored Lisa Bohner, followed by a RBI single from Sheelin Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) that scored Corliss. In the fourth, Bloomsburg took a 5-0 lead when Krupiewski hit a two-run double that scored Zarski and Reed. Both runs in that inning came with two outs.
In the fifth, Holy Family went from a no-hitter to tying the score with five runs in the frame.Bloomsburg, though, took the lead for good in the sixth when Bachert singled home pinch runner Jess Snader (Mount Joy/Donegal) with two outs. The game was called due to darkness after the bottom of the sixth inning. Fisher got the win for Bloomsburg, going the distance and striking out 10.
The Huskies play in the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
